Canalezzo
The Grand Canal in Venice becomes more magical after dark. The view from the Accedemia Bridge toward St. toward Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute never grows old.
New Orleans Oak
Audubon Park in New Orleans has ancient oak trees the each have a particular personality. My interpretations of the colors and shapes in the bark of trees began here, on a hot summer day.

Orca Spiral
Original Acrylic Artwork by Debra Lennox
Walking on the headlands, I noticed some particularly exciting splashing near the buoy. The fins that broke out were not hooked, as I expected with frolicking dolphins, but straight and tall and black. Orcas!! They blow bubbles as they circle their prey, and while I have sympathy for seals, the idea of the orca family hunting together has stuck in my mind. The black and white motif lends itself to a mandala-like composition. Add bubbles and voila!
Whale Fluke
Original Acrylic Artwork by Debra Lennox
March is Whale Watch time in Mendocino. Our first glimpses of the returning gray and humpback whales are always thrilling, no matter how many times we see them. They are a reminder of the vastness of the ocean, the world below our sight, and powerful creatures that we adore.
Sunset At Headlands Edge
Original Acrylic Artwork by Debra Lennox
The Headlands State Park northern bluff walk brings us to the edge where seamounts and islands are the roosting place for various birds- from cormorants to pelicans, they gather in the hundreds, silhouetted against the backdrop of spectacular sunsets.
BIG RIVER BEACH SUNSET
In the wintertime, one of the best things about living here is that the sunsets align with our best beach at Big River. King tides & moonsets, spectacular sunsets are the reward for having no sun at the Farm. Between the storms, it’s warm enough to go for a barefoot walk at the ocean’s edge and watch the end of the day in gorgeous oranges & yellows.
Strawberry Dance
Precious, juicy strawberries are the reward for all the hard work, from the gardener to the bees. Big River Farm’s garden is abundant in strawberry beds, protected from the marauding birds by netting. The hungry slugs are lured into beer traps as each day’s ripe strawberries are harvested before sundown, beating the slugs to the choicest fruit.

Mendocino Starry Night
Mendocino is a “dark sky” town, with few streetlights. The night sky is dramatic. One night Venus was particularly bright, inspiring a version of Van Gogh’s Starry Night celebrating the church tower and water towers with various window lights suggesting the human element of this special night sky & moon reflected in the ocean.
