Precious, juicy strawberries are the reward for all the hard work, from the gardener to the bees. Big River Farm’s garden is abundant in strawberry beds, protected from the marauding birds by netting. The hungry slugs are lured into beer traps as each day’s ripe strawberries are harvested before sundown, beating the slugs to the choicest fruit.
Cherry Blossom Song art work by Debra Lennox
Dancing sunflowers & buzzing bees celebrate the summer’s joy of being alive.
Cherry blossom time at Big River Farm, a former Zen commune, is magical and reminds me of my visits to Japan. The sounds of the bees and the delicately snowing petals are truly the expression of spring among the redwoods.
